Importance Of The Rose Flower

Roses have been used for centuries as ornamental plants. Rose petals and hips (berries) are used as ingredients in perfumes and health tonics. The rose emblem has been used as decoration, and even as a symbol of religion and war.

The rose garden is the traditional way to grow roses, but this versatile plant can be used in other areas of the garden too. Roses can be grown as a specimen plant or in a mixed perennial border. Climbing and trailing roses will enhance a trellis or fence. Pots of miniature roses can be placed on porches and patios

Rose Motifs

Rose motifs are common design elements on decorative items, household wares, clothing and jewelry. Stained glass windows and carved moldings often feature rose motifs, as do china and other tableware. Fabric for clothing, window treatments, bedding and other household items are printed or embroidered with roses. Rings, charms and bracelets may have carved or beaded roses.

Rose scent

Some roses have the typical rose scent, while others have hints of vanilla, citrus or berries. The scent of roses in potpourri or rose oil can calm and soothe people who are nervous or stressed. Rose oil is used in perfumes and ointments.

Therapeutic Uses

Rose petals and hips (berries) are used to make rose tea, which is high in vitamin C. Rose tea contains other vitamins and compounds that may help stomach problems, such as bladder infections and diarrhea. Rose petals contain an astringent, tannin, and can be used to control bleeding.

Warning

Check with a licensed medical practitioner before using any herbal remedy, including rose tea.
