The Tree of Life located in a desert in Bahrain is the only
vegetation as far as the eye can see.
It is approximately 400 years old. It reaches 32 feet high and it’s about 1.2 miles from Jebel Dukhan, or Mountain of Smoke, which is a famous hill in Bahrain that is the highest point of the country.
The tree is on top of a 25 foot high sandy hill. It has become a
local tourist attraction, since it is the only tree growing in the area.
More than 50,000 tourists visit the Tree of Life every year.
Unfortunately due to the tourism, the tree is damaged by graffiti
carvings. It is said to be the site for cults to practice ancient
rites.
The tree is of the Prosopis genus which is known for adapting well to arid environments with the deepest known root systems.
Interestingly and randomly, the tree is mentioned in the movie “L.A. Story.”
